I had a wonderful birthday this year. Blaine couldn't understand why mommy didn't have a cake with candles for her birthday so Barry took them to the store for supplies, came home, and they made a cake. I was not allowed in the kitchen. Fine with me! Secretly it was killing me. The kitchen is my domain. Love cooking! The boys enjoyed surprising me with their creation and helping me eat it! I lost count at how many times they told me Happy Birthday. It was a great day full of memories.

Brenden graduated from preschool! They had a program and a reception. So glad we have such a wonderful part time preschool for stay at home moms to take advantage of. We have enjoyed two years there and will now send the next preschooler there in August for our next 2 years!

When my sister and family left we were not expecting to see them in person for 3 years. An unexpected loss in the the family brought them home a little sooner. During their stay my sweet older sister had a birthday and her rockin hubby just couldn't resist the chance to surprise her.

We had a blast with the Oxner's! A jam packed weekend for sure! We arrived Thursday night and had a birthday party for Brenden. I sure hope he remembers this birthday. He chose to go to his cousins' house instead of having a birthday party with his friends at home. I just couldn't fit both into the schedule. I know he was glad to get to celebrate with family. He is such a loving little boy. He was excited about the cake his aunt Karen made him and she even decorated it with some of is favorite super heroes. We got up Friday and headed to Galveston island. It is about an hour and a half from their house plus you get to ride the ferry so the boys loved it. It wouldn't be a ferry ride unless someone gets pooped on. Just glad it wasn't me. We spent the day at the beach and at the aquarium. They enjoyed seeing all of the sea life up close. We got home really late after overeating at Joe's crabshack. The next day we went to Riverfest and spent the day watching Formula One boat races, riding rides at the carnival, eating carny food, and enjoyed fireworks. Sunday morning was children's day at church and we enjoyed a mexican feast with desserts made by the kids. Sunday afternoon we pulled out the slipnslide and the neighbor kids came over to play for a low key day. We headed out Monday morning to return home to a tball game. Whew! No wonder I didn't do much this week!

Arkansas weather is so crazy! Yep that is snow. We started our Spring Break with cold snowy weather.

The boys enjoyed time with both great grandmothers and great aunts and uncles.

Put put golf is mandatory when we go to Hot Springs.

We hiked up the mountain and spent some time in the national park. To finish our trip we stopped at the diamond mine to dig for diamonds. On this day it was beautiful and in the 70s. The boys were not impressed. We had to drag Barry out after 2 hours with nothing to really show for out efforts.

A visit from a cousin

Allie stayed with us for a few days between Christmas and New Years. We had a fun visit with her. I know the boys enjoyed spending time with her and have learned a few ways that girls like to play house and they have continued without her. So sweet she rubbed off on them a little and there is nothing wrong with it at all. While she was here we did a little project with a snowman kit. They enjoyed watching the snow grow on him. Kinda neat really.

Alright! I have wanted this for a long time!

We had a hard time this year trying to figure out how we wanted to handle the Santa thing. I went back and forth wanting to tell Brenden that he wasn't real to wanting him to enjoy his childhood. I even had someone question me on how I could tell my kids that someone existed that didn't and how I felt about them later in life possibly questioning a relationship with Christ when they can't see Him just like they couldn't see Santa. The funny thing is in all of this stress that I was basically causing myself Brenden was on the verge of figuring out that it was a fairy tale anyway. We did finally decide not to do big unwrapped Santa gifts and just have stockings. We didn't leave out milk and cookies and we did talk about why we were opening presents the next morning on Christ's birthday. We enjoyed our morning together celebrating the birth of Christ and letting our kids know how much we love them and even though we love them so much that Christ loves them even more.

Pumpkin Patch

We took a field trip with Brenden's preschool class to the pumpkin patch this past week. It started off a little cold but turned out to be a beautiful day. Much needed since all the rain we have had lately. On the way back we saw the down side to all the rain 2 tractors one pulling the other for unknown reasons but they were so caked in mud and leaving a trail behind them so thick I almost needed 4 wheel drive down the highway!

Both boys started at about 2 playing on the computer. Brenden also loved a PS2 thanks to his daddy and cousin Noah who were anxious for him to hurry and learn I am sure. He has gotten so good at all of these electronic games he is now beating his daddy! He loves to play his cousins' DS games and the Wii. He is going to be so far ahead of me in the computer department before I know it. Course it won't take much! It wouldn't be fair to my little man if he didn't get to play on the same things his big bro plays on. Thankfully I was already prepared with games for him! I am thinking we are going to have 2 computers before we know it!

We are doing Saxon K math and he loves math time. We use a lot of hands on things to count and make patterns. We have got a lot more stuff to do and I can't wait. I don't remember using these things in school but that has been a long time ago. I will try to post more school pics. He loves showing off his work.

If I am going to talk about old people trying to act young I can't leave this out. Hubby is a lot braver than I am. Our nephew has a ripstick and of course Barry has to try this new thing out. He is getting pretty good at this thing and is now requesting one for Christmas. I thought I only had 2 kids. Guess I can't leave the big one out. I imagine I will spend the next few years in the ER with ALL of the boys and all of the stitches and broken limbs to come.

Barry's grandmother was here for a visit along with our niece from North Carolina. Had a little fun one night on the trampoline. His grandmother a 72 yr old woman got up there and jumped. I was a little on the nervous side that we would end up in the ER. Then Andra my mother in law jumped and took a fall. My father in law also took a turn. The big kids and little kids had a blast. Pretty funny watching old people try to be young. Can't talk too much that trampoline wears me out! Guess I am getting old.:o)

This summer we are still doing school work. Brenden doesn't mind though because it is mommy time and at his age everything is fun. We were on the letter e and since that is the hardest letter he has had to write so far I wanted to show him why it is so important for him to learn how. He has 2 in his name. If he wants to write his name he has to learn the letter e. I really like how Abeka uses dots for the starting point of a letter. That is extremely helpful. I am not sure that I would have thought of that one. If you look at his e's you can see his dots.

2 years ago today we were blessed with this sweet bundle of energy and love. I am trying not to get all sappy so I will stop now before I spend the rest of the day crying. We are very blessed to have two precious boys. Each birthday is a huge thing to me. Not only is another year already gone but it is another year of blessings, memories, challenges, and milestones we have experienced. How wonderful it is to be the mother of these 2 boys.

Nothing like it

Nothing like some brotherly love. We have had a good round of getting along and lovin on each other for a week or so. It has been nice! I know it is normal for them to fight one minute and share the next. But it sure is nerve racking when you have to play referee. Sweet brotherly love this past weekend when Blaine scared himself silly. He accidentally pushed the button on the shop vac and turned it on. Out came a roaring noise that he caused. He stood there after we quickly turned it off and looked like a deer in headlights. Took him a good 3 minutes before he just wailed. Sweet thang. Brenden the whole time was patting him saying its okay it was just the shop vac. You are okay. When Blaine started crying Brenden just leaned over and hugged him. I know it was truly an Awwww moment.

Not as bad as it looks. It is messy but with my dad's toys it is not hard to get up. The boys have had a great time digging in and getting dirty. They are a big help actually. The other night they were black from head to toe from the grout dust. Brenden has used the power tools! I am nervous. He sure is starting young. He will want real ones by the time he is 7. Guess he will fit right in.

We are crazy I do believe. We are taking on some huge projects this summer. First we are knocking down a wall that I have wanted to take down since we moved in. It is a wall between my kitchen and living room. I feel so lonely in my little hole when everyone else is in the living room plus with 2 small kids fighting I need to be a better referee. Can't do that so well if you can't see what they are doing. On the other side of my kitchen we are closing in that door way to make a pantry. After we finish the wall drama we are replacing all of our floors ourselves. Oh my I know!

Awana awards and last day of preschool...

We had Awana awards Wednesday night and Thursday was Brenden's last day of preschool. I will miss going to preschool this summer. Brenden really enjoyed school this year. It really helped him come out of his shell. I loved both of his teachers and even though one moved away the one that followed is wonderful. I am looking forward to another year with her next year. Then 2 more to follow with Blaine!

Brenden used his Awana points to get a Walmart gift card. He wanted to pick out his own prize. So after church we headed to Walmart. Blaine enjoyed a little play time out of the buggy.

Hot Springs

We took a quick and much needed trip to Hot Springs over the weekend. I don't know what it is about that town that I like so much but we have gone there every year for about 7 years.

Brenden loves put put golf and this year Blaine was able to enjoy it. We also went bowling. I like their bowling alley a lot better than ours. The gutter bars work much nicer than the plastic tubes they use here. We did a little shopping for furniture and I have to go to the consignment shops while I am there. We didn't get to go to the bathtub races on bath house row like we wanted to because of the rain. We did go swimming in the indoor pool at the hotel. We had lots of fun and the boys were exhausted on the way home. I wish it could have lasted a little longer though! Weekends go by too fast. Even a long weekend. We are now about to start an extremely long remodeling project on our house. It will take a while because we are doing it ourselves after work and on the weekends. Everything is winding down for the summer so now is the time to get started! Will post some pics along the way!

Plants

We planted these pepper plants and tomato plants from seeds. Very proud of how big they are getting. We just wanted to show Brenden where food came from and how it grows. He loves tomatoes and so does Blaine. The peppers are for Barry and Blaine.

We tried an experiment with the upside down tomato plant. We took our own bucket and put a hole in it. We cheated on this one because this plant is store bought. But our seeded plants are almost as big. We have our first tomato. And we can't wait to eat it!!

We are thinking the upside down method it pretty cool and less work because you don't have to stake them.

Storms and Rain

We are about to drown in Southeast Arkansas. Seriously, I have never seen the Saline river so high. It is to the top of the bridge and we are fore casted to have more rain this weekend and week. Surely it won't go over the bridge! On Wednesday we had a F1 tornado go through our town. A pretty scary morning for a lot of people. Lots of trees on houses, cars, and across roads and lots of power lines down. I think by Friday pretty much everyone had power back. But the aftermath of the damage will be here for a long time. We were blessed in our county not to have any fatalities that day. The storm hit about 5 in the morning. I hadn't gotten much sleep that night because at about 1:30am I heard thunder off in the distance and saw the bad weather we were going to have later. I just don't like bad weather and I sure don't want to sleep through it and not be able to hold my babies if I need too. I spent all night on the couch with the tv on with one eye closed and one eye on the tv. Then it happened. I dozed off for a little bit. I woke up for some reason and saw the warning on the tv for our county and they were talking about it. Then the phone rang and Ned Perme was calling to say there was a tornado warning for my area. No more than 2 minutes later the wind picked up and the thunder and lightening was crazy loud. Barry had already gotten up and we were piling pillows and blankets and a flashlight into the bathroom and each of us grabbed a kid and hunkered down. My hubby has given up arguing and questioning me. He just submits when it comes to this. Not a battle worth fighting to him. We waited it out for 30 minutes and got out to check the radar to see if it was done. The boys were wide eyed by then wanting to know what in the world was going on. Thankfully my boys are easy when it comes to bedtime and they went right back to sleep. I was exhausted by then and wanted to crash but the night wasn't over for us just yet. Hubby was on call this week so the phone started ringing like crazy. Trees on gas meters and houses and blowing mains oh my! So off he went into the aftermath and unknown. I spent a good 2 hours praying that my man come home with every hair on his head he left with, unharmed, and every finger and toe still in place. I have learned you have to be very specific to the Lord or He just may not get what you want.:o) Not the first tornado my hubby has had to go in and clean up after. He went to the one on Dumas too. Just makes me nervous though. He got a call from a police officer that smelled gas while driving down the road. They weren't sure where it was. Sure in the pouring rain with lightening still shooting in every direction hubby can find that leak in an unknown location. Well he did and it was a meter by the road under a tree shooting gas straight into the air. He gets out into a ditch full of water and power lines down to stop it so there is no explosion. He says I took one for the team and chanced it. Man I am serious. We don't have enough life insurance. I think I may need to do some checking on that soon!!! Any way later in the day the sun came out and it was beautiful. The calm after the storm was here. I lost my sanity for a moment and let the boys go outside into our flooded yard and play. The storm blew the lid off the sandbox and it was full of water which they loved. God gives us storms. We can choose to walk through them with Him and reach the other side in His arms or try to go around them and fail and fall away from God or we will go through the storm with Him never reach the other side but be with Him by His side for eternity. The first and last are awesome to me. I don't want to go around the storm. I learn from each one that is in my path. Don't always want too but know I need it. And the storm is always worth being closer to my God.

My Momma's birthday...

Today is my mom's birthday. I will not reveal her age but she is really not that old in my opinion. She had a wonderful day shopping with her man, my daddy. When they got back to town I had a surprise waiting at my house. I decided to cook her supper and have a special sweet made up. While at the store today Brenden suggested we get a pineapple for Grandma because she likes them so we got one and came home and the boys made her cards. I think she had a great birthday. I just wanted to do something special for her. Buying presents is great and all but things that truly come from the heart and quality time together mean a whole lot more to me than more stuff. Happy Birthday Mom. Without you I wouldn't be here.:o) And I wouldn't be the person I am today. You are a great mom and have become a great friend.

Today my little boy turned 4. He was born at 1:20 in the afternoon after 23 hours of labor. We had to have a c section but he finally made it here. After 4 days in the hospital he had to be med flighted to Baptist and we finally got to take home a completely healthy 7 day old baby boy. We were worn out and had been scared out of our minds for a little while but God truly answered all of our prayers and showed us complete peace and comfort during that scare. This little boy is my gift and blessing from God. I thank God all the time for allowing me the privilege of being his mom. There is only one other gift that tops the gift of children and that is the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for my and your sins. How awesome the gift of children but the love God shows us is far greater than the love we can show for our own children. How mind blowing it is at times and I am so glad I get to receive it.

Blaine in the hospital...

We had an interesting weekend that landed us in the ER in Ft. Worth, TX.
We went for a visit and to help my sister with the process of her move.
Blaine woke up Saturday with high fever and croup. It got worse as the day went on and we went to an urgent care clinic that sent us to the ER. We did have a great time with family even though we had a few scary moments . I am actually glad it happened there with the support of my sister than here by myself in our town. I wouldn't take my sick fish to our ER. We are thankful that he is now on the mend. He also had an ear infection. Now big brother has a cough and says his throat hurts. Hopefully he is past the age to get a bad case of croup. We hope to never see this virus again.

We are coaching a tball team this year. Brenden got his uniform in yesterday and couldn't wait to put it on. My little boy is playing his first organized sport! It only took him 2 practices to run the bases by himself. He would hit and play the out field just wouldn't run the bases. He loves it now that he sees how much fun it is. I am so glad he loves it.

Early birthday present

Brenden got an early present for his birthday. Barry is on call so much he didn't know when he would be able to put it together so we chose the only free weekend for like 2 months and let Brenden have it early.

It took a few times for Blaine to warm up to it but he likes it now. And Brenden loved it from the start. I think I need to up my insurance on hubby though. He does flips on it and I just know he is going to hurt himself. He is no spring chicken when it comes to that sort of thing. But don't tell him I said that!

Our Saturday...

Before the truck show we ran to the mall to get Brenden some new tennis shoes. The 3rd time in 6 months! His foot has grown a lot. Then we decided to ride on the trolley. It is a 40 minute ride. You go over the river to the Clinton library and then back to down town with a few stops along the way to let off and pick up people. It is cheap too. We spent a whopping $2 for the three of us. They are heated and cooled and clean. So if you have time to kill or want to park somewhere and leave your car try them out.

This guy is hilarious! He is on a motorized ice chest! And cheesin'.

Considering I am not a pro at pictures and know very little about my camera I think it did a pretty good job. We were in section 205 so pretty far up. The zoom is great! These are remote control cars that go up to 70mph that people race in their spare time. They cost $1500! They did little stunts while we waited on the show to start.

Can you tell the exhaust haze was pretty heavy!

These guys are crazy! They rode up a ramp, flew in the air, did a trick, and landed on another ramp. The scary thing is Brenden looked at his daddy and said I want to do that one day! AHHHHH!!

We had a great time spending the day together. Soon Blaine will be old enough to do this sort of thing. I look forward to it but at the same time cling to his baby stage. There were kids there Blaine's age but I didn't think he would sit still and wasn't sure if he would be okay with the volume level of all of it.

We played the Wii at both houses at Christmas. Of course we got a little too competitive at both houses.

I have to say I am glad I finally got to pack away the singing and dancing Christmas toys! This was what they did daily. Front row for the show and pushed all the buttons at the same time. AHHH!

What a big family! Unless someone adopts we are ALL done.

Glad Barry is secure with his son's masculinity or this might be really bad. Brenden knows when he is out numbered and he just must conform if he wants someone to play with. Don't worry those sweet girls played his trucks and cars too.

Barry went to the dr today because he was tired of having these horrible headaches that caused double vision, nausea, tenderness in his head where the headache was, and just recently just not feeling good for several days after the headache. The dr prescribed him some preventative medicine and another prescriptions to take when he feels one coming on. The dr also wants him to keep a journal so maybe we can find what is triggering these. His dad has the same thing that started when he was in his mid 30s so I guess it can be genetic. I am just glad he finally did something about them. I was worried it may be his blood pressure or something else. Hopefully these meds will help.

On another subject, when I called the dr office to get him in the receptionist asked if it could wait til Monday. When I said no but I would gladly call another dr and try them she huffed and said ok fine you can come in in 30minutes. What is up with that?! I mean seriously when a man finally agrees to go to the dr you don't tell him ok wait 3 days and stay in this cooperative mood and then we will go. If it could wait til Monday would I have asked to get in today? I know sisters it sounds like I had my usual attitude but honestly I didn't, just venting a little. After the dr visit he then says he doesn't want to get the medicine filled because he doesn't want to spend the money every month and doesn't want to take them every day. Oh my word what am I going to do with him. Silly silly man. He got them anyway cuz I said I was tired of him complaining so much and it would be worth him not having to go through the headaches if it works.

We are taking him to his first event at Alltel Arena this month. He can't wait. Check it out maybe your kids would like to go. We are going to the party in the pit before the show. That is what is going to be neat.

Beth Moore Study

We will be starting Feb. 5th at 6pm at First Baptist Church 413 N. Main in Monticello. I am working on child care I will have to ask the participants to donate a dollar every night to help pay our child care worker or workers. Let me know if you are interested so I can get a number to order books and see how many kids we may have for the workers. The books will cost about $8. I truely love doing Beth Moore studies and if you have never done one of hers this is a short one and a good way to try her out. I hope everyone that wants to come can. I think we will have a great time learning how to love well.

I am going to lead a Beth Moore study in February. The study we are going to be doing is Loving Well. It is a 4 week study that will help us learn to love all of the different people in our lives. We all have people in our lives that are hard to love and some that are easy to love and some that we don't even know we have to love. So if you would like to join me and other women try to love better we would love to have you. I am still planning all of the details. I know it will be on a week night around 6pm it lasts about an hour or hour and a half after discussions. Still working on child care. If you are interested let me know. I will post more details when they are finalized.

Boys are just boys

I have noticed that the more Blaine wants to be like his big brother the more Brenden aggravates Blaine. As many things as we have to play with the both fight over the same thing. And if I dare suggest Brenden go play in his room with the door shut for a little while so you can have a break from sharing and being nice he thinks it is the worst punishment ever. But I don't want to play by myself. Then why in the world are you being so mean to your brother? You know the one you have to play with. Craziness I say! I fear this is only the beginning and it will get lots worse. Okay sis how in the world did you raise your kids to play so well with each other and respect each other??????? I am clueless. Always try to be kind to each other. Matthew 22:37 is repeated to Brenden over and over. Isn't that what Jesus says for us to do okay so lets try again. I am so glad we have scripture to back up our parenting principles and I try to use it when I know the scripture to use. Funny though because Brenden learned this one in Sunday school and I added it to the one's he is memorizing. He knows it well and I hope this will help him apply scriptures to every day life. It helps me too.

My little sleepy head

Blaine decided to sleep in this morning. Funny how it usually works. The days I want to sleep everyone is up early and the days I am up and needing to go somewhere someone sleeps. I love the fact that I can keep my kids on a schedule and work my errands around them though. I make appointments around nap time and the grocery store can always wait. I try at all cost to avoid exhaustion or hunger melt downs. Brenden was a strict schedule baby which he grew out of. You knew it if you were running late on food or naps with him. Blaine though is pretty laid back. He will sleep or stay up makes no difference to him. Of course this morning I wanted to go get groceries since I only have one right now and Blaine decides he will sleep til 9:45 and I have to pick up Brenden in about an hour. Oh well guess I will go tonight.

My oldest is eating me out of house and home.

About time. He ate more than I did at lunch and supper almost as much as his daddy did! He hasn't been a big eater since he was 20 months or so. He has never had extra storage just normal on his percentiles. Guess he is having another growth spurt this winter! I already had to get more pants because he grew in height. My little man will be as tall as I am before I know it. Tall and skinny like his daddy. Adjustable waist or slim fit everything. If not it falls right off. Even the slim fit we have to put tucks in them. So glad I have a mom that sews or he would be walking around with safety pins to hold up his pants.

My sweet little one has always been smaller than his big brother was. So cute and little but I fear he is on his way to catching up with his big brother! He can't stay little forever. I want both of them to be tall like their daddy.

I was thinking about it and I have a year and a half before Brenden starts kindergarten! No way! I think I will be crying my eyes out his whole first year. It is pretty easy to stay home with them the hard part is having to slowly let him go and grow up. It tares my heart right out of my chest sometimes. I want them to stay little as long as they can. This world it too hard and cold and I don't want them to get hurt. My sister has a saying she uses. God protects us under an umbrella. There are storms going on everywhere but His umbrella is always there to protect us. I pray that for my kids all the time. I can't protect them from everything no matter how hard or how much I try. But my Savior has all the power I can imagine and more to protect them. I read a book when I first had Brenden called Every Child Needs a Praying Mom. It talked mostly about school aged kids but I have prayed for my kids before I conceived them. I enjoyed reading another mom's testimony and how the power of prayer lifted up their kids. It has been a while since I read that. I think I will read it again soon. Right after Multiple Blessings that a friend loaned me.

I was dusting this morning when Brenden ran into the room and said mommy Sammy has my golf ball and took it up the tree in his mouth. Sammy is our name for our squirrels. Course every time we see a squirrel it is Sammy. I didn't know what he was talking about at first but he was right that squirrel took off up the tree with the golf ball in his mouth. Then it had the nerve to come back down the tree and continued his already in progress job at ripping my swing open and stealing the cushion out of it piece by piece. To be such a small little thing the sure are strong. Barry can no long blame the dog for the torn up swing. I told him it couldn't be Sooie and now he will believe me. Guess we have a cozy squirrel living in our tree since he has my swing cushion to sleep on and a few toys to play with.

We spent the night with friends. Our Sunday School class had a party and we ate lots of groceries, visited, and played games. I taught the ladies how to play Sequence. Now I am off to bed! Hopefully the boys will sleep in because the played hard tonight with all of the other kids!

We found Blaine the red ones because he likes to take off his socks if he doesn't have shoes on. He is too funny. He loves these shoes. The minute he gets out of bed he is pointing at them saying shoooe. And when one of the boys has something the other will soon want it too so we found Brenden some.

1. I enjoy staying home with my kids. Yes I have some days that are better than others but I would not trade it for anything.
2. I am totally a daddy's girl. Still to this day I will call my dad to ask him questions and his advice and for him to help my fix it husband fix something because I know daddy knows how to do it and can help.
3. I have a sister that is leaving for the mission field in less than a year and will not be home for 3 years. I feel extremely selfish when I cry about it because I know what an awesome thing God has called them to do and I am jealous of their faith strength and willingness.
4. Me and my mom in law are either the best of friends or just can't be in the same room together. Thankfully most of the time we are the best of friends. We are too much alike and bound to clash. I love her so much she is an awesome mom in law.
5. In the last few years I have grown closer to my mom. I am the baby of the family and she had me late in life and 12 years after my older sister. I am glad we get a long so well now and can talk and be friends.
6. I believe wisdom is gained the hard way. We are too hard headed to listen to someone who is trying to tell us we are about to mess up. We usually have to mess up and then we get it.
7. I speak before I think. I always stick my foot in my mouth then later realize what I did. Most of the time I am too chicken to apologize and hope that they will forget what I said or maybe they didn't take it offensive but I don't want to bring it up to find out.

Something to do...

If you are looking for something to do go to Crossett and check out Winter Wonderland. It is right before you get to Crossett. You drive through it and they have tons of lights and different scenes with music. It is really neat. I don't remember seeing any Santa Clause decor and as you drive through there are several nativities and the story of Christ's birth and other scriptures. The kids love it. We have gone the past 3 years and they add new stuff every year. Just a fun little outing and singing Christmas songs there and back.
Also if you aren't doing anything this Sunday I want to invite you to First Baptist Church in Monticello. My brother in law and sister and their 3 kids will be singing and my bro will be preaching.
